NEW PROGRAM SET TO LAUNCH

Rebecca Sanchez and
Dr. David Smith

Rebecca Sanchez, a musical theatre major from Baldwin-Wallace College in Cleveland, the city which has the second largest theatre district next to only NYC, pursued professional theatre in the city in which she had graduated. Having performed and directed at the Cleveland Play House, she performed in a variety of traditional and contemporary roles.

While performing in professional theatres like The Cleveland Playhouse or Dobama Theatre, she also pursued youth theatre, performing or serving as director.

"I always loved teaching, directing and working with kids of all ages. They are inspiring and have a fervor and passion to learn." Rebecca worked alongside Sonya Robbins, a brilliant professional director, who had a passion for and directed the Marilyn Bianci Kids Playwrighting Festival.

Rebecca adopted Sonya's passion and soon found herself directing the entire program on her own. Rebecca moved to Fort Wayne and shares, it was "always my vision to make this [Young Playwrights Festival] happen in Fort Wayne because it has strong family values and an eagerness to serve its community." She adds, "Plus, the arts are so richly appreciated here." A believer artist, Rebecca brought her vision to afO, having learned of their faith-based ministry through her pastor. afO embraced the vision and came alongside her to see that vision accomplished.

"This festival will build confidence in young writers to pursue their dreams. It will give families who have never seen live theatre the chance to experience it."

This festival will build confidence in young writers to pursue their dreams.
It will give families who have never seen live theatre the chance to experience it.

Dr. David Smith, Great Lakes Pediatric Surgeons, Inc., has devoted his professional career to the interest and health of children. Dr. Smith heard about the Young Playwrights Festival while attending the afO fund raising dinner in October. "My only response was to fully fund the program that shared my own vision and passion for healthy children," he reflects.

Rebecca shares, "It was so exciting [to have the program fully funded (by Dr. Smith) at the fundraiser], but more than that, it was a reassurance that God has his hands on this project and wants to see it through. He is using Doctor Smith and his abilities to carry out something greater than we could ever imagine."

My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
